Master Divers Finathon Challenge is a
43km SOLO OPEN WATER SWIM!

(The English Channel is 36km.)
(A standard marathon is 42km.)
(The distance around Koh Tao is 23km.)

A 43km SOLO OPEN WATER SWIM demonstrates how seriously we take this issue!

This amazing feat will be attempted by Gene who is an honorary Master Divers member, she is as fanatical about open water swimming as she is about saving sharks.

The distance attempt will be made by swimming in between the tropical Thai Islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.

THIS HAS NEVER BEEN ATTEMPTED BEFORE.

Starting at 2am on the calmest day in our 3 week May/June window, it's anticipated that the swim will take around 16 hours. During this time Gene will have to support herself in the water. She will not be allowed to touch the boat or any flotation device. She will be fed and hydrated in the water too.

We feel that this effort deserves some support and we will be doing everything we can to ensure the success of the swim.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP?
It's simple really! Please donate whatever you can!
Not only will your donation go to a great cause but it will help motivate the team and particularly Gene as she trains for this mammoth feat.
Hit the big orange 'DONATE' button at the top right hand side of this screen and have your credit card to hand.

WHERE WILL MY MONEY GO?
Donations through this site will go to Project AWARE to help fight against shark finning by insisting on full protection of endangered sharks and negotiating stronger policies to protect them.

HAS GENE DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE?
Yes. In December 2012, Gené swam the 23kms around Koh Tao in 9 hrs and 16 minutes. Click here for the full story.

Last year she did it in a relay effort in 7hrs 56 minutes and raised over 5000 USD for FINathon.

WHY SHOULD WE SAVE SHARKS?
Sharks are the oceans apex predator. Without them whole Eco systems will simply cease to exist. Fishing stocks will dwindle further due to disease without this hunter to weed out the sick.

WHY ARE THEY BEING KILLED?
Thousands are being killed every day and this runs into millions a year.
Most are killed for sharkfin soup. They have their fins removed and are tossed back in the ocean to slowly suffocate.Without their fins they can’t swim and if they can’t swim, water does not flow through their gills allowing them to ‘breathe’.

Some end up on ice to be served on the BBQ.

Lots die as a result of indiscriminate fishing practices.

Many are killed as a result of fear and paranoia.

Gene is going to extreme lengths of personal endurance to highlight this issue. Please help us by providing your support in helping us spread the word about our campaign to help end shark finning.

Name our team mascots !
Here are our first team mascots (oh yes - there are likely to be more)...after all 16 hours is a long time to cheer let alone swim....

You can see them here hanging out with our Finathon collection box......

And you are likely to see quite a lot more of them in the 90 or so days left before Genes epic swim!

But they need names.... what should we call them?
